The
European Robin
is one of the most common breeding bird species in Germany. It occurs in large numbers in a variety of forest types. Especially
in moist forests, deciduous coppice forests and spruce woods it is quite common. In the semi-open agricultural landscape it colonises high growing
hedgerows and copses. It is relatively rare in villages, towns and allotment gardens and residential estates, but occurs frequently in cemeteries and
parks. The European Robin is distributed throughout Germany, with greatest concentrations in the woodlands. The German breeding population is
estimated to encompass 3.2–4.1million territories. The long-term population trend is considered to be stable, whereas in the short-term (1990–2009)
the population size has slightly decreased.
